Cumi-Cumi Kecap (squid with kecap manis)

300g baby squid, cut into 1-2cm pieces
1 red shallot, very finely chopped
1 clove garlic, very finely chopped
2-3 red chillies, very finely chopped
2 whole star anise
1/2 tsp ground white pepper
1/2 tsp ground fennel seeds
1 tbls kecap manis

 

Heat 1 tbls oil and stir-fry squid until just opaque – drain and set aside.
Heat 1 tbls oil and saute onion, garlic and chilli until fragrant. Add spices and continue to saute. Add squid and stir well. Lastly add kecap manis and serve.
